Our week of firsts

The last week we have had a lot of firsts at our house.

Zack started crawling on his knees instead of the army crawling, he figured out how to sit on his own, and he started pulling himself up to standing.

Austin a little over a week ago started saying cracker, Zack can mostly say it. They also both started saying ball and they try to say Zack and they will make some of the animal noises like quack and moo and growling. It's very cute!

They also both discovered themselves in the mirror, twins generally take longer to find themselves because they are basically looking at themselves all day so they don 't really care when they see another baby in the mirror. It has been so funny; Austin loves to kiss himself and makes himself laugh when he's playing in front of the mirror and Zack likes to bonk his head against it and touch hands. They definitely keep us laughing!

This is of Austin just being cute, they were being naughty this night and wouldn't go to bed, but they were absolutely adorable so it's hard to be too mad!

Daddy Son day

I worked last night and I'm on call tonight so Aaron had the boys all day today while I was sleeping. They had fun with their daddy (at least Aaron says they did). Here are some pictures of their day together.

Aaron and the boys wrestling (if you are wondering if the boys are in their pajamas the answer would be yes, I guess that's what happens when their dad is in charge). I think I put out the wrong impression about Aaron, in the year that I have been back to work after having the boys he has done baths and gotten them dressed every time (not always matching clothes, but clothes nonetheless). I just wanted to give him a hard time for not doing it this time, it is the first.

Aaron apparently wouldn't feed the boys so Austin had to result to eating his toys. :)

Austin and Zack love each other, I missed the picture of Austin kissing Zack, he caught me with the camera and wouldn't do it anymore. This is the fun part of having twins!

Update

After 5 doctor visits, 5 hospital visits, 10 blood draws, 2 respiratory tests, 3 chest x-rays, 4 attempts at a urine catheter, 4 times of throwing up, 8 days of 103 fevers, 4 bottles of Ibuprofen, 4 bottles of Tylenol, 70 times taking temperatures, 2 days and still counting of a rash on the chest and back, and multiple calls to and from the pediatrician; Austin and Zack are finally mostly feeling better. After all of those tests we never did figure out what they had; Dr. Clawson thinks it was a virus of some sort, we're just glad it's over! Thank you to everyone for all of the love and concern, it has been a long week and a half, but we are very grateful that it wasn't anything worse and that they are on the mend. I can't wait for winter to be over! Here are some cute pictures of our boys feeling better, they love bath time!

The Good and the Bad

For being in quarantine and not going anywhere since November our boys have been sick an awful lot this winter. If nothing else it proves to us that our boys are definitely high risk and I'm really grateful they are at least getting Synagis ($6000 a month for shots isn't that much money, is it?). With all that said Zack decided to start having fevers of around 103 on Sunday and they have continued through today and Austin decided to join in the fun on Tuesday, we've had a fun week! Their pediatrician Dr. Clawson is stumped and so are we. We have had to go to the doctor and the hospital for blood work, x-rays, and other tests everyday this week except Tuesday and we still haven't figured out what's going on. One of the good things about all of this is Aaron stayed home from work on Wednesday and took a half day Thursday to help me. Another is Austin and Zack have only wanted to cuddle lately which is hard with two because they don't like me to hold them at the same time and they haven't really wanted Aaron, but I do love cuddling with them!



With our fun week me and Aaron decided to not do anything for Valentine's; I should have known though because everytime me and Aaron have decided to not do anything he always still does things and makes me look bad. So when I woke up yesterday he had cards from him and ones the boys had made me in our doorway so I would see them first thing. Then he had put little Spiderman valentine's (he claimed that's what the boys picked) all through the house so I would find them all day with sweet messages from him and the boys. He is wonderful! I love you Aaron!!

The things kids do

Austin and Zack have been sick the last week with colds and so they wouldn't take their afternoon nap for a couple of days (I think because they were having a hard time breathing) so by the time dinner came Austin was very tired! He has never fallen asleep in his chair before and so we were laughing very hard because he kept bobbing his head and was trying so hard to stay awake, he obviously lost the battle.


Austin has apparently decided that he wants to be a leader and not a follower so he has decided crawling isn't original enough and invented his own walk. This picture doesn't do it justice, he looks like an ape, it's the funniest thing I've ever seen!

Zack does the funniest look where he scrunches up his whole face when he is smiling at you, I've been trying to get a picture of it forever, but he doesn't hold it for longer than 1-2 seconds so I haven't been very successful, but here is the best I've been able to get. Angie and my mom will especially attest to how funny it is.

When we were getting the boys ready for bed the other night they were both so cute and just started eating their toes at the same time.


Austin was playing and decided to climb into their toy basket, he didn't quite know what to do once he got in there, but I sure got some cute pictures.

Yesterday, was my grandpa's 81st birthday. Happy Birthday Grandpa!!! We love you. My grandma had us all over for dinner and we had a great time being able to be with family. I have the best family ever!

4. In the summer I love to put fresh peas inside of raspberries and eat them (I don't really think it's weird, but Aaron does).

Austin and Zack have really started playing (and fighting) together a lot more. They are really funny, their cribs are head to head and they love reaching through the bars and making each other laugh, which is darling except for when they are supposed to be taking a nap or going to bed. They will crawl after each other and laugh and they like to grab each other's hands when they are eating. When they are being nice it's really fun! You can see if you know who's who, Aaron is starting to get them mixed up all of the time.

One Year Pictures

The boys got their one year pictures done the other day so I thought I would share them. Hopefully the quality is ok since they are scanned in. Zack is in blue and Austin is in the green.

Here are some of the new things the boys have learned:

Heidi taught Zack how to make this noise with his tongue and he does it so cute that we had to share.


When Heidi went in to get the boys out of their cribs this morning Austin was standing up holding on to the railing and he has been pulling himself up on the couch and everything else he can find since then. It's so much fun to see them learn new things and to see how excited they get, they are so much fun! By the way we do dress our kids- they just like to crawl out of their pants and look at those cute legs!

Christmas

We had a good Christmas this year. I thought the boys would love playing with the paper because whenever I am going through the newspaper or wrapping presents they are always pulling it and love to play with it, but they could've cared less about opening any of their presents. They are still recovering from being sick so I'm sure that's part of it. They were pretty funny when we put them on their dump trucks, they kept pushing the buttons and oohing and aahing. We are really excited for next year when they understand what's going on a little more.


Zack was very tired after such a long day so he enjoyed a snooze with Grandma.

Stuart Christmas party

We did a nativity with some of the grandkids and all of the great grandkids at our family party. It was hilarious, most of them were three and under and they didn't really want to stand where they were supposed to. Austin was a cow and Zack was a horse.

First haircut

Well, I'm sure some of you looking at their birthday pictures were wondering when we were going to get their haircut. Aaron and I were sad to do it, but we must admit they looked very handsome after, maybe now their Uncle Steve will stop making fun of them. They both got suckers for the first time to try to make them stay still, Austin loved his and was so sticky after that he had hair stuck to his chin and everywhere else.

Zack just loved her dog and kept trying to lick it. Unfortunately the dog was trying to lick him too and they ended up licking tongues! It was so gross!

Austin and Zack's birthday

Austin and Zack turned one today!!! We can't believe how fast it went and we are so glad they are doing so well. For a little update on them, Zack went to his oncologist on the 10th and had an ultrasound done on his tumor. They feel like everything looks good and if anything then it has probably shrunk a little so we get to continue just going every three months to check it. Austin went to his cardiologist on the 12th and they did an echocardiogram (basically an ultrasound of his heart) and they also felt like everything looks good. So clean bills of health for now, wahoo! Both boys are crawling now, which I must say I really miss the days of stationary babies. They also are both saying mama and dada which we love! They've been a ton of fun, we just hope this next year is easier, but we are probably out of luck there! Here's some cute pictures for you to enjoy:

They were not impressed with their birthday cakes, the expressions on their faces tell all. Maybe it is because they have been sick for the last week and haven't eaten anything with puking, either way I didn't get the birthday cake pictures I had dreamed of, oh well.


Zack wouldn't taste it at all, he got a little bit of frosting on his hands and then wanted it cleaned off. He definitely didn't get his mom's sweet tooth.

We had our ward Christmas party tonight. They do a nativity outside, it's really neat, but really cold and since our boys hate their bunting suits they weren't to thrilled about going. I think they look adorable in them, they totally remind me of the movie The Christmas Story.

Austin loves to be wherever his brother is, sometimes to play and sometimes to torment him. He especially loves to go play with his feet when he is in the jumparoo or exersaucer.
